Carolina R. Tchintian

I am a Ph.D. in Political Science (Rice University) dedicated to research and advocacy work on democratic institutions. My research agenda is framed in the area of comparative politics, with a regional focus on Latin America. I study political institutions and examine how electoral rules and their administration shape participation, representation, voter behavior, and elite strategies.
My academic trajectory was recognized with a Fulbright scholarship, which enabled me to pursue my doctoral studies in 2011. My dissertation, “Ballots, Vote Casting Procedures and Electoral Outcomes,” received support from the National Science Foundation and the Social Science Research Council, and it was recognized with the John W. Gardner Award for the best social science dissertation at Rice University’s School of Social Sciences.
I have published my research in leading peer-reviewed journals such as The Journal of Politics and Electoral Studies. In 2023, I published my first book, The Representational Consequences of Electronic Voting in Argentina, with Cambridge University Press.
My research also informed several political reforms to promote sustainable democracy in Argentina and the región. This experience includes the 2019 campaign finance reform, the digital adaptation of Argentina’s National Congress in 2020, and ballot reform initiatives in 2022.
Currently, I am a professor in the Political Science Department at the University of Buenos Aires and a visiting professor in the Department of Political Science and International Studies at Torcuato Di Tella University.
